Really all it is, is a desire to try all of the cameras!!! We have started collecting many vintage cameras now over the past few years, but in an effort to not let our collection get out of hand we decided to only collect cameras that work and can actually be used. However, not all are winners and some are just easier or more fun to use but you have to shoot with them first to find out! Thus, we decided if we run a roll through every camera we are interested in, not unlike going on a 5 minute date with a bunch of strangers at a singles night, we can quickly see which are worthy of being added to our collection.

Luckily he hand-numbered the slides in order shot, however, at the top of most of the slides in the white paper border there are date stamps, either in ink or actual impressions in the slides, e. What are these dates? Or are they slide expiration dates? I am trying to determine if I should append the date to the slide number after each scan. Probably a stupid question for the old salts, but here goes.

Pubpages was the home of many a student homework assignment along with personal sites from faculty and staff about their research work, teaching, and personal interests.
At the end of December , all Pubpages addresses were permanently redirected to this webpage to help any remaining visitors following old links to pubpages. UNH now has a new service for faculty, staff, and students to make personal webistes using a modern content management system. That system is known as myPages and is avaialble at mypages. Many faculty and staff who had old Pubpages sites now have new ones in myPages.
There is not any definitive list, though, to map from the old site names to the new ones. Still, if you wound up here looking for something specific, you might still be able to find it by checking the sites within myPages. You browse and search a list of all current myPages sites to see if you can find what you are looking for. Lastly, if you want to give it a try, the Internet Archive does have some Pubpages sites within their content collection that can be accessed via the Wayback Machine.
The Internet Archive also has recorded many of the original front pages of the Pubpages service for those interested in more about the history of this service.

Never for instantaneous exposures. For or “Time” exposures outdoors in cloudy weather. The smaller the stop the sharper the picture. Absolute failure will be the result if you use the smallest stop for instantaneous exposures. Flash-Light Pictures By the introduction of Eastman Flash Sheets, picture taking at night has been wonderfully simplified. A package of flash sheets, a piece of cardboard, a pin and a match complete the list of essential extras, although a Kodak Flash Sheet Holder is a great convenience.
With flash sheets, no lamp is necessary, there is a minimum of smoke, and they are far safer than any other self burning flash medium, besides giving a softer light that is less trying to the eyes.

I recently had a very unproductive E-mail exchange with Kodak in regards to their printers default behavior to disable my printer as soon a low ink notification shows up. Any chance anyone knows how they monitor the ink level in the ESP series , or even more importantly, how to override it, so I can continue to print until the cartridge is actually empty? Resetting the cartridge counter [if one has a defective chip or a manually refilled cartridge]: Apparently,it is a circuit that carries the count of pages printed to a counter.

Guide to Real Photo Postcards This guide is meant to aid the collector in identifying and dating real photo postcards, and to act as a reminder that it is impossible to do so with great accuracy. Although real photo postcards were made in a variety of ways, they hold one identifiable feature in common. The tonalities of photos are completely continuous to the eye producing true greys, for they are created by the reaction of individual photosensitive molecules to light rather than the transfer of ink from a plate.
In printed images the grey areas are usually made up of black marks that are spaced to create the optical illusion of greys. Though most of us today are familiar with the concept of photo grain, this is mostly because we have experienced very large prints made from small 35mm negatives. But even here the effect is more of a softening of detail than a observable texture. Early real photo postcards are small by their very nature and since most were contact printed, not enlarged, there is no visible texture.
Collotypes, which provide the finest detail of all printing methods are sometimes confused with real photo postcards. But even collotypes will exhibit a discernible grain when magnified. And of course any image that contain a regularly patterned series of dots is not a photograph at all but a ink printed image. Some halftone cards were printed on high gloss paper to resemble a photograph but their screen patterns will give them away if one is vigilant.
Most old photo papers used silver in their emulsions.

Its solid-fuel rocket motor was prepared from nitrocellulose. He reached for the nearest cloth, a cotton apron, and wiped it up. He hung the apron on the stove door to dry, and, as soon as it was dry, there was a flash as the apron ignited. His preparation method was the first to be widely imitated—one part of fine cotton wool to be immersed in 15 parts of an equal blend of sulfuric and nitric acids.
After two minutes, the cotton was removed and washed in cold water to set the esterification level and remove all acid residue. By coincidence, a third chemist, the Brunswick professor F. Play media Deflagration test of nitrocellulose in slow motion. While guncotton is dangerous to store, the hazards it presents can be reduced by storing it dampened with various liquids, such as alcohol.
For this reason, accounts of guncotton usage dating from the early 20th century refer to “wet guncotton”. The power of guncotton made it suitable for blasting. As a projectile driver, it had around six times the gas generation of an equal volume of black powder and produced less smoke and less heating. However, the manufacturing process was not properly understood and few safety measures were put in place. A serious explosion in July of that year killed almost two dozen workers, resulting in the immediate closure of the plant.

Brownell designed most of the early Kodak cameras, and was responsible for the design of the famous Brownie cameras, which for the first time brought snapshot photography within reach of the masses. While large and bulky, they established a style of camera that, starting around the turn of the century, was to evolve into the small folding camera that was to dominate photography for the next forty years. Kodak Corporation had such a profound impact on the art and science of photography that it is easy to overlook George Eastman as a historical figure. A unique, caring and talented individual, he cared deeply about his many employees, frequently dispensing large portions of his considerable personal fortune to provide bonuses for his workers.
He was an extraordinarily generous philanthropist as well as an art collector. An extraordinarily creative inventor and innovator, he was one of the first American industrialists to employ a full-time research scientist. Plagued by serious ill health in his later years, he gradually gave away most of his fortune, wrote a note to his friends, and made the decision to take his own life on March 14, at the age of For me, the greatest appeal of working with cameras of this vintage is the satisfaction proving that such neglected old relics can produce work that is of gallery quality in an era of multi-megapixel digital imaging.
